The authors

The brothers behind Imaginary Brother

Imaginary Brother is the publishing home of brothers James and Jon Evans, who write military science fiction together — with co-author Paul Teague joining Jon on By Strength and Guile — and build worlds of their own on the side.

The worlds and the words

Jon Evans was born in Portsmouth and now lives in Cardiff, where his surname fools people into thinking he might be a local. After a fabulously dull series of jobs — none of which ever quite added up to a career — he made good on a lifelong ambition to write.

Jon writes every book with a partner. With his brother James he co-authors the Royal Marine Space Commandos and Disposable Heroes series — clone-bodied Marines and the galaxy's most expendable penal soldier, from first contact through the long grind of the Deathless War. With Paul Teague he co-authors By Strength and Guile, the far-future starship saga at the edge of known space.

On his own, Jon is building the Shattered Empire — a renaissance-fantasy world that opens with The Edrin Loft Mysteries, where Captain Edrin Loft and a rough band of misfit thieftakers work the city's least-wanted Watch posting.

The relentless action

James Evans writes fast-moving military science fiction — magical, hand-crafted worlds where the action never lets up and the stakes keep climbing.

Together with his brother Jon he writes the Royal Marine Space Commandos and Disposable Heroes series — from the clone-bodied commandos of the Deathless War to the galaxy's most expendable penal marine — each one built to pull you in and keep you turning pages.
